LO2: Initial research into audio visual products (P2)

After having a look into some Freeview Channels, I would like to redesign the channels CBBC and ITV 1.

CBBC:

CBBC is a British Freeview channel that is hosted for the younger generation of children, owned and operated by BBC. CBBC is a wide range of high quality distinctive content for 6-12 year olds and includes drama, entertainment , comedy and animation. CBBC has similar shows to BBC this can be seen by news round that CBBC has produced for the younger children. There is a variety of programmes that are being aired on this channel and they all keep a consistent pattern of being able to keep the shows child-friendly.

The overall Target audience for the channel is 6-12 year olds. An example of this would be early morning shows that are being presented at early hours to keep the children motivated to go to school. On CBBC there is also shows such as news round this is to make sure that younger children are updated about the world and what is happening around the world. The channel allows younger children to be motivated.

The message behind the CBBC logo is to represent that it is a Children's channel and the letter C in front of BBC stands for children BBC but when the target audience is reading the channel name it is said as CBBC. The logo colour is a soft colour to show that it is a Child friendly programme. The colour scheme is also very simple and has used primary colours.

There are a variety of different idents that are used within this channel, however one of the idents that are mainly used and known to represent cbbc is the ident below. The ident is a classic one and shows the logo with a range of different colours, this ident shown below is to attract the younger children allowing them to know that CBBC is now airing. The ident below is a Christmas Ident but shares the same logo with the primary colours, as the previous ident was green and blocky and was not as colourful.



Overall in my opinion I think that when the audience are trying to figure out what channel they would like to watch they would watch the ident and realise that it is CBBC. This is because it is unique in font and colour and the audience would be able to easily tell that it is CBBC.

ITV 1:

ITV 1 is a British free public broadcasting channels, owned by the British media company. ITV 1's targets audience is audience aged from 16-34, there are over 16 million viewers every month. ITV is also very popular television channel it is made for entertainment and comedy shows. ITV's main audience stream is mainly adults.

The overall target audience for ITV is adults, the shows aired on the ITV channels are mainly information that is provided for the audience such as news and elderly channels as well as sport. The shows that are aired on ITV are for entertainment,  comedy and informative reasons. The channel is made for elderly adults as well as young adults to sit back and watch, this would usually be during dinner while having Eastenders on.

The message behind the Logo represents the history behind the channel, when it was first introduced in 1955 but through out the years the logo has changed and it has become bold and more elegant. The letter 'I' in ITV stands for the independent representation. The colours used are dark and bold with a hint of light, the use of this has been done because the target audience are adults.

There are a variety of different idents that have been used within this channel, however one of the ident are mainly used to represent theITV 1 channel. The ident below is the most recent modern day ident. The ident shows the logo with the view in the background and the target audience can see that this ident is not a children's ident so that is one representation that the ident gives off, allowing the target audience to know and understand that this channel is for them.


Overall my opinion is that this ident is really clear and stand out which allows the audience to understand that the channel coming is an ITV1 channel. The logo is unique with the view standing out in the background of it, this also allows audience to get ready before heir show comes on.
